Spink Lumber is a family owned and operated business. The owners, Randall and Annette Spink, have resided in Camden, NY for over 35 years. Randall has been in the sawing and logging business his whole life. As a very young man he worked along side his father, Glenn Spink, Sr., who was in the same trade. He and his father Glenn started out with a small sawmill on their farm in Camden. They then opened a sawmill in Panther Lake, NY where they built pallets for the wire mills and Schouler Paper located in Pulaski, NY. They ran this location for eleven years. After needing a larger facility, they relocated to the old Rochester Shoe Tree in Camden, NY. They ran this location for one year, until a terrible fire destroyed the entire building. Thankfully, no one was hurt. They then relocated back to the farm in Camden, NY near Randall’s residence. They ran the mill there for two years. Sadly, Glenn passed away in 1984, and they closed the current mill. Randall still wanting to continue the business, relocated to Wolcott Hill Road in Camden where the sawmill has been located for over 22 years. In 2006, the Spinks realized they were quickly running out of room to sell out of their Camden location. After some searching, they opened a retail store on the corner of Rts. 46 & 31 (State Bridge) in Durhamville, NY. “The store opened in June of 2007 and business has been great,” said Sherri Wilson, Office Manager. “We have customers coming in from all directions. The customers are a combination of homeowners, contractors, weekend warriors, farmers etc. You name it, they walk through our doors.” Spink Lumber harvests their own logs. They saw, plane and kiln dry all their products. Their products are made of Red Pine, White Pine, Hemlock and Larch (also known as Tammarack). They have rough cut, kiln dried-D4S, tongue and groove, flooring and mouldings available. Also available are various sidings including: cove, clapboard, log, shiplap and Adirondack. “We have several plans for expanding our products this year, although nothing is set in stone, Wilson said. “We are getting feedback from our customers on what products and services they would like to see.” Along with the products Spink manufactures already, they recently started carrying framing lumber, and plan to carry other wood products, hardware, hand tools and wood finishing products. “We love dealing with the public,” Wilson added. “Our focus is friendly customer service and top quality products. Our customers are wonderful. They love coming in to shop, and most of them will stop and chat for a few minutes. It’s nice to get to know them.”
